SERVICES PROVIDED

For all your podiatry needs: We specialise  in general podiatry care including cutting nails, ingrown toe nails, removing corns and callous, diabetic assessments, nail surgery, dry needling, othotics and footwear advice.

DIABETIC MANAGEMENT

Podiatrists play a vital role in the clinical assessment and management of diabetic foot health. As diabetes can cause multiple complications to the foot and lower limb it is important for any patient who has been diagnosed with diabetes to have a foot check at least once a year.
Diabetes can cause changes to arteries which can affect the blood flow and nerve supply to your feet. In clinic we manage this by assessing the blood flow to both feet by checking all the pulses using a doppler ultrasound.
We also check for peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage) as having a high sugar level in the blood can damage nerve endings leading to decreased feeling and sensations in the feet.
At the end of the assessment, we will then advise you of your risk status (low, moderate or high) and advise and educate you on how to maintain or improve your foot health to help reduce the risk of developing foot problems such as ulceration and infection.

NAIL CARE

We offer appointments for routine treatment and management of the skin and nails. This appointment is personalised to your individual needs. We offer nail cutting and ingrown toenail management, wart treatment, removal of callous (hard skin) and painful corns. This appointment is suitable for all patients who want their feet assessed and treated. As always, your care is our priority and we do ask you about your general health to get an overview of how we can best help.

A routine treatment usually lasts for 30 minutes and on average appointments our patients revisit every 6-10 weeks to maintain optimum foot health. Each treatment is finished off with application of Walkers foot cream and gentle massage which is very popular with our patients!

IN GROWN TOE NAILS

Ingrown toenails are a common condition in which in the edge of a toenail grows into the skin. This usually occurs in the big toes and can affect just one or both sides of the toenail and have the potential to become infected if not treated.
Depending on the severity we can treat these conservatively by cutting out the invading piece of nail during our routine treatment or we can perform surgical removal of the invading portion of the nail. Nail surgery is a very simple and effective procedure which is a permanent solution to a problem nail. The procedure is undertaken under local anaesthetic therefore you will feel no pain throughout the procedure.
The procedure usually takes one hour in total, and you will be fit for normal daily activities the next day. You will have regular appointments with us until you are fully healed with all the advice you need. Don’t suffer, let us help!

BUNIONS AND TOE DEFORMITIES

The most common deformities we see are bunions, hammertoes, claw toes, and mallet toes.
Toe deformities can be present from birth or can occur later in life from wearing improperly fitting shoes. Certain diseases such as diabetes, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis can also cause changes to our bones and joints which can result in deformities.
The symptoms associated include pain, corns and callouses on pressure points and having difficulty finding comfortable shoes which fit properly.
It is recommended to see your podiatrist early on while non-surgical options are still available. Conservative podiatry treatment includes footwear advice, padding to offload areas of concern as well as regular toe stretching exercises. Do you have concerns about bunions or toe deformities? Get in touch and let us help you!

FOOTWEAR ADVICE

As Podiatrists, we love shoes! We are very serious about providing the best advice when it comes to our patient’s footwear, after all, we spend most of our day wearing them! We can offer you personalised footwear advice on where to buy supportive shoes and we also supply Dr Comfort shoes specializing in the diabetic and problematic foot. For the feet requiring custom made footwear we refer to Chris Angerer at Frankston Orthopaedic Services.

A study called “If the shoe fits” conducted by the University of Sheffield in the UK found that a staggering 9 out of 10 women are wearing shoes that are too small which can have a hugely negative impact on feet. If you have any queries or are just looking for some advice on shoes get in touch and let us help!
